The Antique Automobile Club of America is the largest collector car club in the world. The Hillsborough Region AACA was established in 1975. The club offers family-oriented tours, events, and outings monthly. You do not have to own an antique car to join the club, just a love for them!
We partner with the Gasparilla Concours d'Elegance and the Gasparilla Cars in the Park to support an extraordinary automotive event, that benefits local charities for children.
President’s Corner:
Happy August, everyone.
As we inch closer to the much-anticipated end of summer, things will hopefully start to
pick up. More chances to get out in that beautiful classic car without overheating or
driver heat stroke.
I managed to avoid some of the heat by going to the State of Michigan for a few weeks.
As luck would have it, Michigan was in the middle of the hottest summer they have had
ever had, so those cool days and nights were few and far between. But, as always, life
happens, and we had to return earlier than expected.
We will be leaving again this time to participate in the Glidden Tour, which will be in
Owensboro, KY. It is put on by the AACA and VMCCA and lasts from Sept 7 through the
12th with 100 or more pre-war cars. We will be trailering our 1933 Buick behind our RV.
Additionally, Rick Howell, our VP, will be attending with his 1938 Cadillac. If you have
never participated in a Glidden Tour, you should do so at least once. It is a great fun
and educational experience.
In case anyone is interested, I received a postcard addressed to “Hillsborough Region”
from Buccaneer Quarters Suites, located in Key Colony Beach, FL. They are at mile
marker 53.5 in the Keys. They are offering a 50% discount if you arrive in your collector
car. Stay one night or all season. More information can be found by going to
www.BuccaneerKCB.com. This is for a limited time only, but the card didn’t specify the
limit from when to when.
We have some great events coming up. This month, there will be a meet-up at the
home of Larry Rumore on the 20th from 3 pm to 6 pm. I hope to see many of you there.
Please remember to RSVP for this event so Larry doesn’t run out of his famous baked
ziti and salad.
October 26 is the annual Heritage Picnic at the home of Brando and Joanne Pistorius
from 11:30 am to 3 pm. Bring a dish that represents your heritage. Be sure to RSVP
and check out the flyer on the website for details. We will also be celebrating the 50th
anniversary of the founding of AACA Hillsborough Chapter.
November highlights the Plant City Strawberry Classic Car Show on the 15th at Union
Station from 3PM to 8PM. Meet-up for those participating is at Propagation Restaurant
at 3PM. You may want to rethink that and meet up a little earlier, like 2:45 PM.
December 6th is Gasparilla Cars in the Park, Carrollwood Village Park, 4680 W. Village Dr., Tampa. It is a full day packed with all things cars, fun, food, and entertainment. Check out our website for
details.
To end the year, December 14th will be our Christmas meet-up and party, to be held at
my home. Details will be emailed to members at a later date.
One big thing I need to mention is that everyone needs to think about who they want to
nominate for officers for the 2026 year of AACA Hillsborough. I will be unable to
continue as president.
