The Antique Automobile Club of America is the largest collector car club in the world. The Hillsborough Region AACA was established in 1975. The club offers family-oriented tours, events, and outings monthly. You do not have to own an antique car to join the club, just a love for them!
We partner with the Gasparilla Concours d'Elegance and the Gasparilla Cars in the Park to support an extraordinary automotive event, that benefits local charities for children.
April showers bring May flowers. Well, let’s hope the showers are while we are sleeping,
and the days are bright, dry, and not too hot. (Wishful thinking)
Speaking of nice days, don’t forget the Heritage Village car show on April 19 th . If you
are planning to attend, you need to register by going to
www.heritagevillagecarshow.com. There is no charge to register, but you need to
register to guarantee a spot. I, personally, have never attended this show, but I have
heard nothing but glowing reviews. I have registered and will be driving the 1950 Pink
Mercury. (hopefully)
Our March meet up was at the Highland Axe Throwing in Wesley Chapel. We had a
decent turnout, however, there were several who said they would be there, and were
not. You know who you are. I hope you will make it to the next meet up. I’d keep an
eye on Larry Rumore if you see him with an axe. He was pretty good at hitting the
target.
Several things were discussed, most notably that you will not find the email addresses
of officers and board members on our website. There was an attempted scam via
emails so we decided it best to not post personal emails. If you need to contact an
officer or board member, and need their email, you can go through the “Contact” option
on the website. Remember, it is www.aacahillsborough.net.
Also discussed was our new point system on the Sign-up Sheets. You will no longer
have to slide down in your chair when your total yearly points are announced for the
dubious honor of winning the “door prize”. The prize this year will be your next year’s
dues paid. Third place will be regional dues paid for next year, Second Place will have
national dues paid for the next year, and First Place will have both national and regional
dues paid for the next year. Hopefully, this will get everyone out for meetups and
events. We also cranked up the 50/50, and sold a couple of regional hats and a shirt.
We will look into reordering club shirts and hats, as all we have currently available is
one ladies size M, one men’s size L, and one men’s size 3X.
We discussed possibilities for several events for May and one is Williston to the
Elephant Rescue, and an airboat ride. We will be checking on availability and notifying
everyone as soon as possible. We have done the airboat ride in the past and it is very
popular. We also want to set up some tours. We got some really good suggestions, but
I am not as familiar with the area as some of you, and my time planning is limited. If
anyone wants to grab any of the following suggestions and plan something, your help
will be greatly appreciated, and it will earn you more points. Some of the suggestions:
Bushnell to Floral City, thru Istachatta; Inverness to Crystal River on SR 44, and Gospel
Island; Weeki Wachee Springs; Newport Richey and Tarpon Springs; Gobblers Drive. I
haven’t even heard of several of these spots, so please somebody help!
Once we have nailed town specific times and dates and possible costs of any event,
you will be immediately notified by email, and an RSVP will be respectfully requested.
If you have any cars or car related items for sale, you may post them on our website.
Also, feel free to submit any photos of meetups to the website.
